    Aircraft motor systems

    Hi everyone -

I have a relative who is looking at flying again - they have a number of older planes, and are looking at switching to electric.

They flew 40 size engines. What do you like for brands / models of motors and ESCs?

    Thanks!

The simple conversions is to use the eflite power series of motors. For example you could use a eflite power 46 to power a 40 sized plane. A 60 amp esc and a 3s or 4s 3000 mah 30C battery. You could also use rimfire products also. The have the same rating system as eflite. I would resist using cheap stuff as their performance is often suspect. As most nitro planes are over designed if you are building from a kit you could do a lot of weight reduction and have a very strong plane.

The main thing that you will have to remember is that you will have to re balance your plane as the electric power system is lighter than engine power systems. In some cases you have to modify the firewall to get the plane and motor right.

You also need to watch the propeller size.
